RHAPSODY Π

At dawn Eumaeus joyfully welcomed Telemachus who had just arrived walking on his doorstep.

The swineherd introduced him to the hospitable beggar, who was none other than Odysseus in disguise, trying with great difficulty to hold back his tears as he saw his child after so many years. Telemachus asked Eumaeus to find Penelope and tell her not to worry and that she was safe and sound at Eumaeus' house..

Eumaios ran away without wasting time. Odysseus coming out of the hut, Athena was waiting for him, who transformed him again into the majestic king of Ithaca, since it was in her plan to reveal the father to the son.

At first Telemachus believed that Odysseus was a god. But he assured him that Odysseus was his father. She explained to him that Athena had transformed him into a beggar.

Telemachus embraced his father for the first time as a brawny lad with tears of joy, and so father and son embraced for a long time. Odysseus told Telemachus about his adventures and how he reached Ithaca in the Phaeacian ship. She made him promise not to reveal his true identity to anyone, as the gods wanted him to take revenge on the suitors. This would be done by carrying out his plan so that none of his enemies would realize who the beggar really was.
